St. Patrick Elementary School offers a BILINGUAL PROGRAM of French and English in all three cycles. Subjects taught in French are French Language Arts, Social Sciences, Science, Ethics and Religious Culture and Art. English Language Arts, Math, Physical Education and Music are taught in English.
St. Patrick Elementary is proud to offer the only violin program for elementary aged students in our school board! Starting in Grade 3, students learn the violin and perform in a concert on their instruments at the end of the school year. All of grade levels have music as one of their specialty subjects and our Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2 students prepare for and perform a vocal and choreographed presentation during the second term.
Our school choir is an extra-curricular activity offered to our students in Grades 4 through 6. They sing at many events throughout the school year including our Remembrance Day ceremony, spring festivals, assemblies and various community activities.
Another extra-curricular program which supports the Arts is out annual school play which is presented in the springtime. Students audition for varying parts in the fall and our backstage crew, set design and sound board is comprised of our St. Pat’s students from our senior grades. Our productions are always extremely professional and staged creatively; our students perform to sold-out audiences. We have performed such titles as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Peter Pan, The Music Man, Thoroughly Modern Milly, Into the Woods and Disney Classics such as The Little Mermaid. Productions are always student lead and student focused. A team of teachers and staff help with all aspects of the play making it a true community effort!
Since 2013-2014, St. Pat’s has increased weekly physical activity by adding an Outdoor Education program in which all students, from Kindergarten through Grade 6, receive instruction in outdoor education activities, taking advantage of local parks, ski trails, skating rinks and toboggan hills, not to mention our very own back yard.
Our students participate regularly in our school board’s Ultimate Frisbee, Handball, Cross Country Running, Basketball, Volleyball and Track & Field tournaments throughout the school year. St. Pat’s Physical Education program teaches skill development in our early grades leading up to varying team and individual sports in cycle 2 and 3. An intra-mural program during the lunch hour allow students to get involved in team sports in a non-competitive manner. There are varying lunchtime activities at St. Pat’s, including Robotics for our senior grades, literacy groups, fundraising clubs that can support different causes – each year brings new ideas for all of our students to uncover.
