St. Pat’s Joins Edgewater in an Amazing and Collaborative Terry Fox Run
On September 29th, St. Patrick and Edgewater
Elementary Schools in Pincourt joined together
for the Terry Fox Run. With 900 students
participating, the morning started off with a
kick-off assembly hosted by the Physical
Education teachers from both schools. Mr. Ian
Ramsay from the Terry Fox Foundation gave a
memorable speech and and they were honoured with
the presence of the Mayor of Pincourt and our
Regional Director, Veronique Marin.
A major goal was to count up the collective
kilometres that every student participating was
able to run during our schools’ event. Terry ran
5,373 kilometres in 143 days. Collectively, our
outstanding students ran a total of 3400
kilometres during the morning run – truly
impressive for our 900 students! But the most
important message we learned was just how heroic
and unbelievable Terry’s personal Marathon of
Hope really was – what an amazing feat of
endurance, persistence, determination and
courage.
The sun was shining bright as the run began.
Afterwards, students were treated to a juice box
courtesy of both schools Home & School while
they had a chance to mingle. Together, the
schools raised an astounding $10,156.61 for the
Terry Fox Foundation - quite an amazing effort
by both school communities.
The effort from all of the students was
priceless and the event was a huge success.
Terry Fox would have been proud that the two
Lester B. Pearson schools came together to
continue his dream and support the Marathon of
Hope.
